The White Pine, symbol of the Great Peace between the Iroquois Nations, once dominated the eastern Woodlands. Among its names are the World Tree, the Great Earth Tree, the Tree of Peace, the Celestial Tree and the Evergrowing Tree. It was thought to stand at the center of the world, bearing the sun and the moon aloft in its branches. Its great white roots were believed to penetrate down to the Great Turtle upon whose back the earth rests.

When I think of Wisconsin, it is a dream of lakes and rivers, trees and sky.  There is an image of full moon rising over Lake Michigan greeted by the children of the Earth.  I see the first people still harvesting its bounty and the ancient designs that honor the Earth.  The violet, Wisconsin's state flower, is so represented:  to my people, the Oneida Nation, the violet is a symbol of the Earth's good fortune.

Inspired by an ancient wampum medallion and the concept of "e pluribus Unum" (out of many, one), this piece illustrates the idea that we are all part of a greater whole. Made up of many tiny beads, the white circle symbolizing the sun represents strength and healing. Traditionally the purple beads signify sorrow or mourning and the white, peace, health and harmony: together they create a circle symbolizing life and the continuation of life in the world beyond.

The Giclée (pronounced zhee-clay) process is the art of accurately reproducing an original piece of artwork. Typically the Giclée process is used to produce limited edition prints of higher quality and value than standard lithography. To qualify as a Giclée reproduction the process must meet three basic criteria:

First, the image must be digitally captured and processed. This ability allows the image to be fine tuned to closely match the original in color and depth. After processing the image is sent to the Giclée quality inkjet printer.

Second, Giclée means to spray on ink, so it must be printed on a high-resolution inkjet printer to create an image as precise as the original.

Third, and the most important for fine art, is image longevity and permanence to last throughout the ages.
It is important that your fine art reproduction maintain its value. To achieve this, archival inks and media are used in production of your artwork print. With the proper media and inks, the reproduction can last from 100-200 years without noticeable fading or image depreciation.

Although special materials and technology were used to create this limited edition artwork, it should be treated as if it were an original piece and care given to the environment in which it's to be displayed. Much time and teamwork between the original artist and the reproduction specialist have gone into producing this artwork for your lasting enjoyment, appreciation and investment.
